Cherokee woman charged with embezzlement

A Cherokee woman has been charged with embezzlement after she is alleged to have kept extra money that was provided to her for vehicle repairs.

According to court documents, on Thursday, Oct. 21, Tonja Caywood talked to Cherokee Police Officer Tristan Hall in a telephone call. Caywood said she gave Lavada Frye money to get a vehicle fixed. She had Frye take the vehicle to Croft Chevrolet in Alva for the repairs.

Caywood said Frye called and said it was going to be around $5,000 to fix the vehicle, and Croft needed $4,000 up front. Caywood, who works out of town, contacted her bank on Sept. 14...
