Rangers fall to the Wonder Boys

Russellville, Ark. – Northwestern Football traveled to Russellville, Arkansas, to play against the Wonder Boys of Arkansas-Tech for the final road game of the season. The Wonder Boys came out strong with a 56-21 win over the Rangers after taking advantage of a strong first half 35-0.

The Wonder Boys improve on their season as they move to 4-6 in the GAC as the Rangers drop to 1-9.

Quarterback Tanner Clarkson threw for 303 passing yards throughout the game. Darian Gill led the Rangers with 34 rushing yards, with his longest rush being 21 yards. Gavin Garner led the Rangers with two touchdowns and 173 receiving yards. Garner's longest catch was 93 yards. Torrence Stevens had a 4-yard reception that resulted in a touchdown.

Garner's two touchdowns moves him two shy of the Northwestern career record of 25 as the Ranger wide receiver now has 23 touchdowns in his career.

Isaiah Wallace and Xavier Woodkins led the Rangers defense with nine tackles each. Brian Holiday and James Ellis were following close behind with seven tackles.

The Wonder Boys got on the board first with an 18-yard passing touchdown with 11:25 left in the first quarter. Arkansas-Tech got their second touchdown of the game from a three-yard rush with three minutes left in the first quarter.

The Wonder Boys scored 21 points in the second quarter, to take a 35-0 lead over the Rangers going into halftime.

The Rangers got their first breakaway from Clarkson throwing a 20-yard pass to Garner for a Ranger touchdown with 11:26 left in the third quarter to get on the board. Bringing the score to 35-7, but Tech scored shortly after to raise their lead to 42-7.

The Rangers scored back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter from Stevens and Garner. With 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Clarkson found Stevens at the end of a 14-yard pass into the Wonder Boys end zone. With 12:25 left in the fourth quarter, Clarkson found Garner for a 93-yard rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 49-21.

The Wonder Boys scored one more touchdown before the game was over in the last two minutes of play, resulting in a 56-21 final score for an Arkansas Tech win.

The Rangers are back at home on Saturday, Nov. 13, as they host the Bulldogs of Southwestern for Senior Day along with Ranger Preview. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
