The Little Red Hen's November meeting

November 21, 2021

The November meeting of The Little Red Hens, a women's service group, took place at the Cancun Restaurant on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.

Members discussed the elementary fall festival; the group agreed it was a huge success thanks to all the hard work by the members of The Little Red Hens as well as the awesome support from several groups from Alva High School and Northwestern Oklahoma State University who helped with setting up and working the event.

The group sent out five free tickets to each child in the Alva elementary schools and additional tickets were 25 cents each. Everyone had a great time and the numbers of folks enjoying the evening from the games to the concessions was exceptional. Everyone agreed this is a great event and look forward to making it an annual community event.

The group also provided a meal for a family funeral. The group fixed the meal, set up and cleaned up after. A special thanks to all who cooked and helped and a special shout out to Jean Moore for working at the dinner and making sure everything and everyone was taken care of.

In new business the group discussed the upcoming spring Girls Night In, which will be a fun and educational event for middle-school-age girls in the community.

The group spoke on fundraisers and ways to help with the funds needed to do the community service events.

The Christmas party is to be held on Dec. 14 and was discussed and agreed upon and will replace the December regular meeting. There will be an ugly sweater contest, Christmas cookie decorating contest and a lot of good food. It will take place at the Cancun Restaurant beginning at 6:30 p.m. All members are invited to bring their spouses and are asked to invite three guests and their spouses. It is going to be a fun time for everyone and a super time to get to know each other.

The group also agreed to begin having one meeting a month on the 1st Tuesday at 6 p.m. instead of two monthly meetings.

Nominations were accepted by President Meagan Caldwell for officers for 2022. These nominations were accepted and the officers taking office Jan. 1, 2022, will be: Director Dawn Warrington, President Jill Devries, co-vice presidents Baylei Hada and Tabitha Carothers, Secretary Dawn Shafer and Treasurer Heather Penner.

The next meeting will be the Christmas party Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the back room at the Cancun Restaurant. We invite all ladies in the community to come join us and bring their spouses.
