Dale Straw was born, October 5, 1934, west of Alva, Oklahoma, to Pete and Eliza Straw, one of ten children. He moved south of Ringwood when he was five. He lived there until he was 14 years old, and then he moved to the Texas Panhandle to work on an oil rig. They found out that he wasn't 16, so they let him go. He worked for a farmer west of Alva until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1956. He met Opal Hubbell on July 27, 1956, and they were married July 30, 1956.
