Woods County Health Department encourages Covid-19 vaccines, boosters

December 19, 2021

Holidays are upon us and family and friends will be gathering together to celebrate. During this time, the Woods County Health Department would like to remind everyone that boosters are available to all adults, regardless of which vaccine was received. Pfizer boosters are also available for adolescents ages 16-17.

The CDC expanded booster recommendations to 16 and 17-year-olds Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021. At this time, Pfizer is the only vaccine authorized for adolescents.

Pfizer and Moderna boosters must be administered at least six months after the second dose, and boosters must be administered at least two months after receiving Johnson & Johnson.

“It is important to remind Oklahomans that getting vaccinated and receiving boosters provides extra protection against Covid-19, making gathering with family and friends a safer, healthier environment for all involved,” said Regional Director Terri Salisbury. “Covid-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and help strengthen protection against Covid-19 variants. All District 1 health departments and mobile unit are available to assist anyone interested in scheduling.”

Salisbury also encourages those who haven’t taken the step to begin the process of receiving their prime dose of Covid-19 vaccine, to go ahead and do so.

Covid-19 vaccines are available for anyone ages five and up. Vaccine appointments can be found by visiting the state’s scheduler portal, vaccinate.ok.gov, by calling the Woods County Health Department at 580-327-3192, or by visiting your local pharmacy or personal provider.

For those experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, it is important to stay home and get tested. Testing is available at the health department.
