Mackey, Shirley named December Rotary Students of the Month

Colby Lee Mackey

Colby is the son of Mike Mackey, Michele Mackey. High school activities include Key Club, Oklahoma High School Rodeo Association, FFA, One Act, sophomore vice president, student council, football, baseball, FCA and HOSA.

Activities outside of school include Kansas Professional Rodeo Association member and Forever 7 Rodeo Association – in memory of Max Henderson. Colby works for Mackey Livestock, and he and Joe Macoubrie (self employed) are starting their own business.

He plans on attending Texas Tech to obtain a degree in agribusiness. He also plans to do an internship with Cactus Feedlot to obtain management in large scale feedlots.

The best advice he can give to a freshman is, "A positive attitude and mindset leads to positive decisions and positive outcomes. High school is more enjoyable if you are positive and impacting those around you."

His personal philosophy is, "To live every day like it is my last. I feel more appreciative and grateful for the time I have been given and all the people around me. Some days it is hard to stay positive but there are always people in school or the community that will put a smile on your face. There is never an excuse."

Jarin Shirley

Jarin is the daughter of Biron and Karee Shirley. High school activities FFA (chapter secretary), student council, Key Club, football manager, girls golf, Oklahoma HOSA, Business Professionals of America and National Honor Society.

Activities outside of school include 4-H president and First Christian Church member. Jarin is employed by Shirley Farms.

She plans on attending Oklahoma State University majoring in pre-veterinary medicine.

The best advice she can give a freshman is, "Set your goals high and do not lose sight of them."

Her personal philosophy is, "Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny," – C.S Lewis.
