Five firms offer proposals for Alva pool project

December 26, 2021

Dr. Kay Decker gave the Alva City Council an update from the pool advisory committee on Monday, Dec. 20. The committee continues to meet weekly on Thursdays.

On Nov. 18 the committee held a public input meeting at Northwest Technology with 26 members of the community attending. “The committee received very good input from attendees,” Decker said.

RFQ (request for quote) packets were received from five architectural and engineering firms. There were reviewed by committee members who narrowed the list down to three. Two firms were interviewed Dec. 16 and the third was to be interviewed Dec. 21. The pool committee plans to make a recommendation on the firm that best meets the needs of the Alva community to the Parks and Buildings Committee on Jan. 6.

Decker reported the pool project received a donation of $500,000 from the Kirk and Drue Washburn family, and additional support is encouraged. Additional grants will be pursued to support this project.

Later in the meeting, Mayor Kelly Parker announced that the Share Trust has pledged to match donations to the project up to $1.5 million.
