What might I do after failing persistently for almost 40 years? How might I set out a new pattern for living? In Deuteronomy, the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land. But they had been there before, 40 years earlier. They had failed to believe and take hold of God’s promises to give them the land of Canaan. So, God allowed them to wander in the wilderness (for 40 years).

For 40 years the Israelites had lived out the consequences of their weak faith and disobedience. But instead of hiding their past mistakes, Moses brought them out into the open. The past holds many lessons for us....
