Patel earns HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week

ALVA, Oklahoma – Northwestern Oklahoma State University's head coach Vinay Patel has earned the week 9 HoopDirt coach of the week award. This is the fifth time in his coaching career he has earned coach of the week and the second time he has earned this recognition with the Rangers.

According to HoopDirt.com when a coach earned coach of the week this makes the head coach eligible to win the end of the year HoopDirt National Coach of the year award announced at the conclusion of the season.

Patel wins coach of the week following a 2-0 week following conference victories over Henderson State 76-66 and Ouachita Baptist 83-67 to start the New Year with two victories. In the two wins the Rangers forced 25 turnovers and held their opponent to 38.9% shooting and 21.7 percent from three. Northwestern got it done on the offensive side of the ball as well shooting 51 percent from the floor and 41% behind the arc. Northwestern earned two double digit victories behind this week's performance.

In the Saturday afternoon win the Rangers overpowered Ouachita in the second half sparking an 18-2 run to lead to the 16 point victory.

The two wins bring the Rangers to 9-4 on the season with a 4-3 conference record entering this week's two games. First game will feature a home game Thursday evening as the Rangers play host to Southwestern to conclude the three game home stand before traveling to Shawnee Saturday to take on Oklahoma Baptist.
