Doris was born on July 13, 1930, in Woods County (west of Alva, Oklahoma) to Frank and Beulah McMurphy. Doris passed away on January 11, 2022.

Doris graduated from Farry High School and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva and Missouri State University in Springfield. She retired from Missouri State University as a professional secretary with CPS certification and emeritus status.
