Man convicted in death during police chase in Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) — An Emporia man who collided with a pickup truck while fleeing from Emporia police last year has been found guilty of murder in the death of another man.

Devawn Mitchel, 24, was found guilty Tuesday of murder and several other charges by Lyon County District Court Judge Lee Fowler after a two-day bench trial, The Emporia Gazette reported.

Prosecutors said Mitchell was fleeing from officers in Emporia last March when he collided with a pickup truck, killing 64-year-old Steven Henry. Testimony indicated Mitchell was driving close to 100 mph when he hit Henry's truck.
