Northwest Oklahoma Genealogy Society meets for regular meeting

The NWOGS met for its regular meeting at the Alva Public Library on Jan. 8. The program was on preserving Oklahoma, Woods County, Alva area, and family stories.

One member shared her story about her school days at Greenleaf, which was a one-room country school that existed between 1893 to 1963. One of the subjects she talked about was how Christmas at Greenleaf was celebrated. Shortly after Thanksgiving the teacher and students started getting ready for the Christmas program consisting of songs, poems and a play or two. The Christmas tree had to be cut and decorated.
