Bernetta Lorraine (Herd) Kendrick was born December 23, 1923, on a farm west of Buttermilk, Kansas, to Jesse James and Bernice Herd and passed away on February 4, 2022 in Oklahoma City at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 12 days.

Lorraine attended school at Protection High School and went on to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University (in the territory, as her father would call Oklahoma) where she met Robert Carey Kendrick.
