Most people are fairly honest but have a moment once in a while. Cheat on taxes, keep the money when they get too much change back, call in sick from work when you are okay, and lots of other accepted "white lies." In my case, I try to keep the transgressions to a minimum.

Now to the story, and then the moral reasoning:

I buy cars and junk from people of all walks of life. It is amazing that after I have paid for a car, how the one good tire, the battery, the nice stereo, or floor mats are gone when I get the car. Selective dishonesty.
