Burlington classrooms receive new technology

Burlington math teacher Vicky Harmon uses her classroom's new Promethean board to teach one of her math classes.

In July of 2021, 20 new Promethean boards were ordered for Burlington schools with the intent of having them by fall. Unfortunately, due to the major supply chain issues, they were not delivered and installed until February of 2022. The teachers and students of Burlington are excited to try out the new devices as they are installed.

The new Promethean boards have made a tremendous impact on classroom efficiency. Some examples of the improvements these new boards offer are features such as student grouping, split-screen where multiple students can work at the same time and phones can be shared to the screen, offering students more ways to learn and work together.

Another benefit is a secondary computer is not necessarily required to operate the boards, unlike the previous ones.

Every classroom received a new board, which was made possible by the ESSER federal relief funds. After nearly a decade, teachers are satisfied with the boards, although some say it can be a steeper learning curve than others. The school is currently working on a document or "cheat sheet" to help with any issues or questions teachers may have. Slow technology will no longer be a hold-up in the classroom.
