At the regular meeting of Alva Chapter No. 97 Order of the Eastern Star held Tuesday, Feb. 8, the group voted to donate $2,000 to the local Masons.

During the course of the meeting, Worthy Matron Erin Stuck and the other officers and members of the chapter reviewed the organization's finances. It was determined that some of the funds that recently came available should be donated to the Alva Masonic Lodge No. 105, as a token of Eastern Star's appreciation for the continued support of the Masons and the use of the lodge for meetings, fundraisers and social events.

By unanimous vote, the members agreed to make a donation to the Masons in the amount of $2,000, to be used at the discretion of the officers and members of the Lodge.

"It's an honor to be able to give back to the members of the Alva Lodge for all that they do for Alva Eastern Star, Alva Rainbow Girls, community organizations and individuals in need," said Stuck.

The Order of the Eastern Star is an organization of the Masonic families. Star membership is open to both men and women over the age of 18 who have Masonic family ties, and to majority members of the Masonic youth organizations such as the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. The Alva Chapter currently has 61 members, many of whom are also members of the Alva Masonic Lodge.

The Alva Chapter of Eastern Star will host a Soup and Stew fundraiser on March 8 – watch for the ads in The Newsgram in the coming weeks.
