Carmen couple charged with child sexual abuse

A couple from Carmen has been charged with child sexual abuse.

Charles William Woods, 44, and Erica Dawn Woods, 43, both of Carmen, have each been charged in Alfalfa County with sexual abuse – child under 12, a felony. This crime is punishable by imprisonment not exceeding life, or by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $5,000, or both such fine and imprisonment.

Court records show on Dec. 8, 2021, Alfalfa County Sheriff Rick Wallace told District Attorney’s Investigator Steve Tanio he had received a child sexual abuse complaint against the Woods couple. The complaint came from a Police Detective Keith Bristor in Wellington, Kansas, concerning a report from a mother about alleged abuse of her two daughters, ages 6 and 3.

Tanio spoke with Bristor who said the mother told him she learned of the incidents after the six-year-old told her older sister, age 13. Bristor interviewed both of the children who indicated their biological father Charles Woods and his wife Erica abused them during a November visitation in Carmen. Bristor mailed DVDs of the children’s interviews to Tanio.

Investigator Tanio made numerous unsuccessful attempts to interview Charles and Erica Woods. Charges were filed on Feb. 24.
