Decisions, decisions

“The mind is an amazing thing, it starts to work first thing in the morning and doesn’t stop working until the teacher calls on you in class.”

My friends and I joke about “senior moments” but I suspect it is not just an aging thing, having endured them my whole life. I envy people who say they can process quickly under stress and not make regretful decisions. Can they, or are they just not admitting their mistakes?

Experts agree that most sales are emotional. Kirk Washburn said, “Quick decisions often result in remorseful buyers.” We have all been in that position and scammers utilize our emotions to their advantage.

Another of their tools is age. Nicki and I believe that we are often targeted because of our chronological disadvantages. We haven’t got the “grandchild in jail” call up to this point, but Medicare Advantage programs have us in their sights. We answer unfamiliar phone numbers because of our business involvement. Callers can be potential customers, so we are fair game for extended auto warranties, vacation packages, and investment opportunities.

We were in the market for an extended warranty but chose to do business locally. I recall an associate who bought a car from an area dealer because it included tax, title and registration for no charge. No charge? It was financed along with the vehicle.

The late Lee Haley said, “Do your homework before you buy,” and an Alva dealer once advertised: “Service is the sale at Mark Ream Motors.” Makes sense.
