March 18, 2022

Northwestern students and non-students entered 300 pieces of artwork into the 19th annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show that will be open for its last week March 20-25 in the J.W. Martin Library during regular business hours. A Winners' Only Show will take place April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Runnymede during the First Friday Art Walk.

A needle-felted piece and needle-turned hand-appliqued quilt were the Best of Show winners in the 19th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show in the J.W. Martin Library in Alva, which reopens after spring break at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 20. Viewing for the campus show takes place during regular business hours of the library. The show ends at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 25.

"Curly-Q," a needle-felted piece made by Jillian Bouse, Woodward sophomore majoring in biology, earned top honors this year in the student division along with a purple ribbon and $50, while "Vintage Valentines Needle-turn Hand Applique," a quilt created by alumnus Pauline Kassik of Carmen, won in the non-student division that is open to all Northwestern alumni and current/retired employees.

"The diversity of the work from our entrants is amazing," Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, said. "There are so many wonderful things. I hope everyone is able to attend the show in the library before we close.

"I'm also so happy to see our entries are getting back to our pre-Covid numbers as we have 300 items on display this year."

The deadline to vote for a People's Choice winner from among all items entered is 5 p.m. on March 22. This winner will receive a ribbon and $25.

A quilt named "Vintage Valentines Needle-turn Hand Applique" by Pauline Kassik of Carmen is the Best of Show winner in the non-student division of the 2022 NWOSU Art Society Art Show.

All of the winning art pieces including those placing first through third will be on display April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. for a Winners' Only Show during the annual First Friday Art Walk event at the Runnymede in downtown Alva.
