Authorities investigating death of Bryan County inmate

DURANT, Okla. (AP) — The death of an inmate at a county jail in southern Oklahoma is under investigation, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Derek Michael Brandes, 36, was found unresponsive in his cell in the Bryan County jail and taken to a hospital in Durant where he was pronounced dead, according to an OSBI statement.

The OSBI said Brandes had been arrested Friday on an outstanding warrant and was in a cell alone when he was found about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

The agency said the cause and manner of Brandes' death has not been determined and that it was asked to assist in...
