Burlington School News: Pies promote positive reading results

Second grader Blaze Pedersen takes his turn at pelting the librarian, Miss Andrews, during their third nine-weeks accelerated reading celebration. Music teacher Mr. Ofiu was also the recipient of several "pies" to the face.

What do pies and reading have in common? Fun! At least that is true for the elementary students at Burlington.

Two Burlington faculty members, Mica Andrews and Isi Ofiu, endured multiple "pies" to the face, or somewhere in the vicinity, to encourage reading.

Almost every student in kindergarten through sixth-grade completed their third nine weeks' accelerated reader (AR) goal and received the opportunity to toss a plate of whip cream in the face of Miss Andrews, the librarian, or their music teacher, "Mr. O."
