Alfalfa County lets burn ban expire

March 30, 2022

During their Monday morning meeting, the Alfalfa County commissioners did not renew the countywide burn ban. Instead, Mike Roach, Jay Hague and Marvin Woodall decided that time was of the essence to burn pastures for landowners to get paid back for the cost-share burn program. The men still urged caution for those planning to burn as the county remains at risk of fire danger.

After commissioners signed the routine documents, County Clerk Laneta Schwerdtfeger said there wasn't much to report on regarding federal funding for the American Rescue Plan Act. However, she said something was getting hung up on the digital form that would not allow her to select the option for the standard allowance. Schwerdtfeger said she is trying to get that worked out quickly because they must formally accept those funds.

One signature was needed for a utility and encroachment affidavit (for Project no. CIRB-202Dc0657RB JP #30436(04), and it passed through. The commissioners then took no action on going out to bid for a chassis for a brush rig for the Burlington Responders since their spec sheet wasn't quite ready.

The next item regarding a negotiated amount adjustment for things not considered in the appraisal for J/P no. 30436(04) Parcel no. 2, 2.1 for District 3) was approved.

They then signed a resolution at the request of Alfalfa County Sheriff Rick Wallace, authorizing Major County and Alfalfa County law enforcement officers to serve as law enforcement officers of both governing entities. The commissioners were unfamiliar with the resolution and assumed it was regarding cannabis growing operations. They signed it through and finished the meeting by signing the papers for the ODEMHS Grant application due March 31. Administrative Assistant Nancy Lambert said they'd signed these forms before, and the state needed them again.
