Many school administrators in the United States, from elementary to college levels, seem to believe that the most important function of educational institutions in this country is to provide opportunities for students to show off any athletic abilities they might have.
Likewise, many educational administrators (as well as alumni and other supporters) become quite defensive at the thought of changing the name of a particular school’s sports teams’ mascot and nickname.
