Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is found in the Gospel of Matthew, chapters 5-7. This was His first teaching for those He had chosen to become His apostles, and for those who were following Him wanting to know more.

They were followers because of His ability to heal every ailment, and did not know much else.

We looked at the Beatitudes, and His “you have heard it said, but I say” statements in chapter 5. In Chapter 6, He teaches about doing charitable deeds and fasting in secret, doing them to please God, not man. God has always wanted our hearts, not an outward appearance, but the real thing.
