Did you know that two early-day settler families in Kiowa, Kansas, had a son and daughter marry that were a sort of power couple? Both from the mercantile families of Singleton and Streeter, they were Dorsey and Belle who married April 15, 1896. There's still the Singleton name on brick buildings in Kiowa.

The Father of Kiowa was who? There's a street named after him. Drop by the Kiowa Historical Society's original museum (on 7th Street across from Corner Stop) Saturday and discover who it was and how he earned that title. Glass cases hold precious and intriguing information about the town and its founders. Do you know why a new Kiowa replaced the old Kiowa?

If you are one of the first 20 adults to tour Kiowa's original museum, you'll receive a $10 gift certificate donated by Walmart.

Patriotic folks will love the updated Veteran's Room. It's located on the top floor easily accessible by a reliable elevator. There's truly something in that museum to interest everyone. Don't miss an original jail complete with convicts.

There's lots of action going on at the Historical Society's new Museum Annex located on Main and 6th streets. Be sure to look inside for intriguing items such as: a carriage, antique instruments, early day medical displays, a one-room school house and much more including lots of school memorabilia.

At 9 a.m., they have a bake sale and at 11 they start selling hamburgers and hotdogs at the above location. This will be perfect for the many people in town for the soccer tournament and city-wide garage sales. Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the Masonic Lodge.
