Woods County Commissioners approve June, July events

April 27, 2022

Three visitors attended the Woods County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning.

Mandi Schoenhals appeared on behalf of the Alva Public Library. As part of the summer reading program, the library wants to use the courthouse property for lawn games on July 6 and 13. The commissioners voted in favor of the request.

Erin Davis and April Ridgway spoke to the commissioners about the upcoming Nescatunga Arts Festival and Sugar Show to be held Saturday, June 4, on the courthouse lawn. They were in the process of obtaining the required insurance coverage and expected to have it by the end of the day. The commissioners approved that event with the stipulation that they would provide proof of the insurance.

All three commissioners – David Hamil, Randy McMurphy and John Smiley – were present Monday.

The commissioners approved a road crossing permit for Alfalfa Electric Cooperative. It is for an overhead line on Cotton Road.

The transfer of $10,000 from District 2 CBIR to the ETR fund for payment was approved. This is payment on a no-interest loan from the state for road work.

A bill for $476.98 for a March 2022 detention transportation claim was approved. County Clerk Shelley Reed said the county will be reimbursed for that amount.

The commissioners also approved blanket purchase orders, payroll, warrants and claims.

McMurphy reported that the Lt. Governor’s Turkey Hunt held last week in Alva was “as good as any I’ve been to.”
