A unique baseball statistic, part 2

 


As we saw last week, only 127 athletes have hit a home run in their first at-bat in a major league baseball game.

A similar statistic notes that even fewer – 53 – hit home runs in their last major league plate appearance. That is not surprising, because great players who have long careers begin to lose some of their offensive “power” as they age.

Regardless of that, however, several players on these two lists had short careers with limited opportunities to display their skills at the major-league level. Such an athlete was John Miller.
