Last weekend, the Alva Police Department held its first annual equipment fundraiser in the form of cars, concerts and barbecue contests – one sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society.
Friday evening, the event started with a Community Bank-sponsored People's Choice meat cook-off between four pre-registered competing parties. For $10 a plate, attendees could sample each competitor's product and vote on whose was the best. The people spoke; their choice was Jason Perks' ribs for first place.
