Alva becomes home to two roadside crosses

Crews brave the sun and heat to raise a roadside cross on US-64 east right outside of Alva. The cross was erected by Dean and Ann Goll on June 2.

Overlooking two sides of the city's edges are symbols meant to evoke feelings of hope and peace in passersby.

The giant white roadside crosses, one east of town across from SandRidge on US-64 and the other down on College Boulevard (US-281 South), are the vision of two families brought to fruition. Dean and Ann Goll, responsible for the east side cross, and F.M. and Bonita Erikson for the south, did not work in conjunction with each other on their respective cross projects but shared the same sentiment: May those who pass by see the commemoration and be reminded of Christ's victory over death....
