Be a doer!

Do you know lazy people? Those people who do absolutely nothing to contribute to the betterment and building up of society? We as Christians can fall into the same rut if we don’t show our faith to God and the world by our actions! We can become lazy if we don’t focus on the work God has for us!

In the book of James, the Lord’s brother, James warns us about the lazy condition of our faith. James 2:14-17 says, “14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

We all are striving to obtain eternal life and even though we are not saved by our works, God’s word is telling us that if works do not accompany our faith, it is a dead faith, worth absolutely nothing! James goes on in James 2:20-24, which says, “20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.”

James is addressing the twelve tribes scattered around the world and is encouraging them to not only “believe in God” (faith), but to “believe God” (actions). We cannot continue to just assemble on Sundays; we are commanded to put into action our faith by helping others! I want to encourage all brothers and sisters to seek opportunity to serve others and thereby serve God and make our faith complete. Without doing so, our faith is dead and it will not save us!! God bless His kingdom, the church!

We invite you to join us at College Hill Church of Christ, 1102 College Ave. every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. for worship. We are a fellowship of believers that follow God’s Word and love all who worship with us!
