Little Red Hens host 4th of July in Hatfield Park

The Little Red Hens hosted Independence Day festivities in Alva's Hatfield Park. All activities, including lunch were free for all attendees.

Each person coming to the welcome table received a ticket for a drawing at the end of the event. Kids received a free $2 face paint, a Frosty Joe’s snowcone certificate and bubbles, and families received pamphlets letting them know about The Little Red Hens and their events, programs and fundraisers.

The Little Red Hens' daytime celebration kicked off immediately following the Cops and Bobbers fishing derby, which was a lot of fun for all the kids.

The morning was filled with family-fun games followed by a great lunch of hot dogs, chips and a drink prepared by the Rowdy Rangers.

As the afternoon began to take off, children searched through straw bales to find hidden money. Twenty-three teams signed up for Cornhole Tournament with cash prizes up for grabs. A tug of war competition with four teams of five members competed to win money. There were slip-n-slides, water balloons, a shark sprinkler, two inflatables including a slide and a basketball game. There was a children’s train, the Firecracker Express, complete with popsicles to keep the riders cool. The train was scheduled for five trips but due to the overwhelming response completed the day after 17 trips. A silent auction with lots of great items donated by local businesses was a great event for attendees to bid on items. The Ice Cream Booth with ice cream made by The Little Red Hens was the talk of the celebration.

Following the festivities, prize drawings and cash prizes were given out. A total of eight bikes and many more great prizes were handed out.

The Little Red Hens thank the community for their support and are excited to rest a little and be back for other events coming up, including the Ham and Bean fundraiser and the Fall Festival.

The next meeting of The Little Red Hens is Thursday, July 14, at Cancun Restaurant at 6 p.m. The group would love to welcome a lot of new members. There are no membership fees and all ladies are welcome and encouraged to attend Come join the fun!

Following our July meeting, meetings will be held on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Cancun Restaurant. We want to remind everyone that we were blessed to be named the third-quarter recipient of the Bank It Visions program from Alva State Bank. Donations will help fund events and programs for the community.
