Grow and Share OHCE met for its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on July 8 at the Methodist church. Amanda Jones served as hostess. President Janet Cunningham called the meeting to order and led the group in the flag salute. Members answered roll call to, “How do you show grace under pressure?” Nine members and two guests were present. Minutes for the June meeting were read by Jean Moore and she also gave the treasurer's report.
No communications were received during the month.
Under the Cultural Enrichment Committee report, Cunningham stated that plans are still underway to have an etiquette workshop for 4-H members in the fall.
Unfinished business included discussion of the State OHCE meeting to be held July 10-12. Cunningham, Mary Hamilton and Jean Moore plan to attend. Jones will check to see if her porch leaner is still needed for the county basket. Hamilton volunteered to deliver the Blessing Box items brought by members.
Under new business, Cunningham volunteered to send a card to Susan Holliday after her surgery.
Members were reminded of a workshop on canning to be held July 15 and one on “How to Keep Your House Clean While Drowning” on July 18.
Jones gave the lesson on “Grace Under Pressure.” Types of difficult people were defined with tips on how to deal with them. Karen Sneary gave an extra demonstration on canning tips. She showed examples of several tools to make canning easier such as the jar funnel and jar lifter. The group adjourned to the kitchen for a canning workshop. Nine members participated in the canning workshop and canned jars of sand plum jelly and blackberry jelly. Karen and her mother, Jean, gave excellent instructions. Secret pal gifts were exchanged. Jones served refreshments.
The meeting adjourned to the August regular meeting with the day, time and place to be determined. Cheryl Diefenbach will be hostess.
