Davis said 'Community Garden' is as good as can be with scorching weather

 

"It's one of the worst years we've had," volunteer Debbie Davis said of Kiowa's community garden. "The heat is the problem." She said they have the automatic watering system going three times per day, but the heat of so many days over 100 degrees are drying up the blooms.

Nevertheless, Davis said there is currently a salad ready to make from vegetables in the garden. There's lettuce, tender baby kale, radishes, eggplant, etc. She said tomatoes are coming on the vines, just none yet to pick. She predicts they'll have a full garden of yummy vegetables by mid to late August.
