Alva City Council to discuss numerous city positions
August 14, 2022
An executive session is scheduled for Monday’s Alva City Council meeting concerning a number of city positions. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.
The executive session will concern discussion on employment, hiring, appointment, promotion, demotion, disciplining or resignation of the following: City Business Manager, Assistant City Business Manager, Fire Chief, Police Chief, EMS Director, Public Works Director, Parks and Recreation Director, Cemetery Sexton, Water/Wastewater Supervisor, Street Supervisor, Sanitation Supervisor, Airport Manager, Library Director and Office Manager. Also to be discussed in executive session are contract negotiations with the firefighters’ union. The executive session is near the end of the agenda.
Following the executive session, the council may act on any of the above items discussed during the closed session.
The meeting will begin with action on the consent agenda regarding minutes and claims. There will be reports from other city meetings as well as a report from the mayor.
Any citizens present will have the opportunity to make remarks or inquiries. Remarks are limited to two minutes per speaker, and speakers must identify themselves.
Dr. Stephanie Widick, the city’s grant writer, will make a presentation on city grant initiatives.
The council will vote on paying a Tyler Technologies invoice for $43,740.29. Tyler provides the city’s Incode software.
Two agenda items are for an airport project to upgrade the AWOS (automatic weather) system. Both items were already approved by the airport commission. First is the awarding of the bid to DBT Transportation Services for $101,426 subject to the award of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission (OAC). The OAC is paying most of the cost of the upgrade. The second action is to authorize the mayor to execute the OAC grant agreement and other necessary documents for the city’s five percent match.
At last month’s meeting, the council voted to accept the proposal by HSPG & Associates, P.C. to perform the city’s audit. Monday night, the council will discuss and vote on authorizing the mayor to sign a letter of engagement with HSPG.
The Alva Utility Authority and Alva Economic Development Authority meetings will follow council adjournment. The only action for those meetings is approval of the consent agenda.
