Do you know what car God likes best? Plymouth. After all, he drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden in a Fury. I hope you are having fun at the Big Cruise and Car Show.

We had a good time at the fair. Cleo and I met her sister Iva and brother-in-law Gary out there. We looked at all the great exhibits in the Women's Building and then checked out the rabbits, fowl, and vegetables. It's a good thing I couldn't find a knife and salt because some of it looked pretty good.

After a good visit they escaped and Cleo and I went to the Merchant's Building. There were less exhibits everywhere, I think, but no shortage of quality. I enjoyed goofing around picking up neat free stuff and visiting. There were several vendors I remembered that weren't there, including me, but we enjoyed the ones that were. There was no shortage of churches or banks.

I got to meet the new president of BancCentral. I may pull a surprise quiz at the bank someday to see if he remembers who I am. I didn't see much of Cleo after the first stop. I was visiting, so Grace and Jennifer took her so she could see it all. There wasn't a large crowd, but we sure enjoyed seeing several people that we hadn't seen for a while. Thanks to all the people responsible for making the fair go so smoothly.

September fun isn't over yet. On the 20th there is a pancake dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. at the 818 Diner with the proceeds supporting the Alva Blessing Boxes, a worthy cause and good food. Then on the 2nd through 24th Act One is having a free play, “Don't Dress for Dinner,” to celebrate 50 years of plays. Call for reservations. Thanks for all the great plays, Act One people.

I have always had a fascination with school annuals. Even those that aren't local may have businesses, and buildings that are fun to look at. It is fun to see what older friends looked like when they were young. The guys are easy, but the women have changed names, so it takes facial recognition on them. When I get an annual not from this area, I always wonder who brought it to Alva. Jeff gave me three annuals the other day. One was from Fairview (1972), and the other two were from Brighton, Michigan ('61-'62). If you know how they got here, please let me know.

I knew there was a problem with the water meters when I got a bill for over 200,000 gallons of water in one month, The nice city lady sent someone to check manually, and got the right gallons. I won't scare you with how much money the original meters cost, or what it will cost to repair or get new meters. I just hope when the hunt for new meters begins, they don't let the same person do the investigating on past performance, warranty, and checking with others on the same system as they did before. In retrospect, Jeff Beason could have checked the meters for about a hundred years for what all this is costing us. When other utilities have unexpected expenses, they just raise my bill. I hope this mistake doesn't happen to my water bill.
