Ranger volleyball sweeps Southeastern for third straight conference win

DURANT, Okla. – The Rangers swept the Savage Storm on the road for the third straight conference win of the season. Sophomore Addison Wimmer led her team in kills with 20. Junior Cameron Lobb led in assists with 35 and freshman Andrea Coady collected 19 digs. Rangers improve to 10-4 overall on the season and 3-0 in GAC play.

Set One

The Rangers built on their momentum from last week's wins by starting the game with a 3-0 run against the Savage Storm. Addison Wimmer and Courtney Russell contributed a kill each. Senior Ravyn Burns fired off a solo block and kill from the middle to forward the Ranger lead 7-2.

Southeastern responded with a middle kill. Burns contributed another kill with a middle slide. The Storm fought back with back to back kills to close the gap on Northwestern 10-6. Wimmer contributed another pair of kills. A run by the Savage Storm forced the Rangers into a timeout 13-10.


Carmae Jones helped push the team forward out of the timeout with a kill from the middle. Back-to-back kills from Southeastern closed the gap 15-13. Northwestern quickly responded with kills from Wimmer and Burns. Libero Andrea Coady fired off an ace serve keeping Northwestern ahead 19-16.

Out of a Ranger timeout, the Storm fired off a 3-0 run, to tie the game 19-19. Both teams went point for point reaching a stalemate. Burns and Wimmer contributed a kill each to keep the game tied 24-24.

In extra points, the Storm was able to lead the game for the first time with an ace. A deep free ball kill from Coady secured Northwestern's win 28-26.

Set Two

The two teams battled point for point to start the second set of the match. Two outside kills from Parks allowed the Rangers to pull away 5-3. Good defense and a kill from Russell allowed Northwestern to pull away further 9-4. Back-to-back points from the Storm closed the gap and forced the Rangers into a timeout.


Wimmer ended their momentum by powering through the block for a kill. Off the bench, Brooke Miller contributed a service ace allowing Northwestern to continue their lead 11-8. Kills from Wimmer sparked a 4-0 run for the Rangers to extend their lead even further 15-8. Southeastern quickly responded with a tip kill. Parks contributed a cross shot kill and Burns contributed a middle kill to secure Northwestern's strong second set lead 20-12. Back to back kills from Wimmer allowed the Rangers to dominate set two 25-15 and lead the match 2-0.


Set Three

Northwestern took an early 5-0 lead to set three with tough defense and a kill from Jones. A solid closed block from Russell and Jones forced the Storm into an early timeout. Wimmer contributed a kill and Cameron Lobb contributed an ace out of the timeout to further the Ranger lead 8-0.

The Storm finally broke the 11-0 run with a kill. Russell fired back with a kill from the right side. Wimmer and Burns contributed a kill each to keep Northwestern on top 18-8. Miller fired off another ace serve for the match. Southeastern made a slight comeback, but back to back kills from Russell clenched the Ranger win 25-14.

Northwestern Volleyball continues their travel with today's match at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The first serve against the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. in Weatherford.
