The Big Cruise was fun, and very hot

September 25, 2022

Cleo and I deserted Jack shortly after dinner Saturday for some cool air at home. When I went back down there, he had given up the ghost himself. Both meals were really good. If I ever hit the lottery, I am going to hire some of the ladies that cooked breakfast, because they sure do a great job.

My nephew, Joel Scribner, did himself proud by winning 2nd in the burnout competition. My friends the Wenzel brothers from Kiowa, Kansas, were 3rd. It says a lot about their reputation, because when I asked Joel who was first, he couldn't tell me, but said he beat the Wenzel brothers. I thought for both meals and around the square on Saturday that there wasn't as big a crowd as in past years. The heat may have something to do with it, and a tightening economy may have kept some out-of-towners from coming.

I am not a R.A.C.E member, partially because as hard as they work, I would soon be easily pooped. I really shouldn't give advice, but I think they need to shorten up the activities a little. Granted there is something for everybody to do, but it can be a bit overwhelming. That's my two cents, and thanks to all the people that make this one of the highlights of the Alva activities calendar.

There is no shortage of entertainment in my life. The other day I went into the bathroom to check for dirty clothes in the hamper. Imagine my surprise when I looked and saw an opossum baby in the hamper. How he got there is a complete mystery. I don't know how he got into the house to begin with. He was way too small to have climbed up the slick sides on the hamper. The only thing I can figure is his mother knows we feed all critters, had a key to the front door, and put him where she knew I would find him. I took him up to the salvage before Cleo could name him, and let him out close to where I feed the cats. I wonder what adventure awaits me next?

Cleo wanted a new sofa, so I went to look at them. The guy at the furniture store told me it would seat five people without any problems. Then it occurred to me, I don't think I know five people without any problems.

Uh oh. Farmers writing romance novels: Her body tensed and quivered after she felt wave after wave surge through it. I probably should have told her about the new electric fence!

Thank you, Lord, for a bit cooler days.

Let's all be safe out there and God bless
