4-H exhibits shine at State Fair of Oklahoma

Twenty Woods County 4-H members entered 70 exhibits in the 4-H division of the State Fair of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City on opening day. Of the 70 exhibits, over 50 received ribbons for being in the top 10 and an amazing 37 placed in the Top 5. Top 10 exhibits qualified to remain at the fair on the official display in the 4-H department. The quality of this year’s Woods County entries was outstanding with members receiving first place on six entries, second place on 11 entries and third place on nine entries.

Davin Budy, Waynoka 4-H, had 15 entries go to the state fair with 12 of them receiving a placing ribbon. Davin had a 1st place with his refurbished item, three 2nd place ribbons and entries in fabrics and fashion, expressive arts, gardening and crops.

Conner Sneary, Alva 4-H, sent 10 entries to the state fair highlighted by his 1st place entomology box in the top age division. The remainder of Conner’s entries were in the gardening division where he had six entries in the Top 5 and all received placing ribbons.

Tayleigh Williams, first year Alva member, sent seveb entries to state with four of them receiving top 10 ribbons.

Katelee Martin had six entries, four in the competitive photography division where she got 1st and 2nd place ribbons, and her apples received 2nd place.

Other 1st place entries included Dace Baird with her jalapeno hat, Reece McMurphy with her canned jelly and Jaylynn Shafer with her round watermelon.

Woods County had two 2nd place entries that were in very challenging divisions. Brooklyn Riggs, Freedom 4-H, had a 2nd place entry in the oil or acrylic painting division. There were over 40 paintings in this class. Avery McMurphy place 2nd in the very competitive senior woodcraft - original design class. Other outstanding 2nd place entries included Asa Thomas for baby-sitting and Zane Ream in postmarks.

Other Woods County 4-H members that had entries in the State Fair of Oklahoma included Falynn Thomas, Jansen Shirley, Kase Martin, Klarc Gilchrist, Lawson Ream, Merritt Mantz, Sage Baird, Shay Wilson, and Waylon Hanks. Be sure to congratulate these outstanding 4-H members.
