Crew digs into Alva waterline

What should have been a routine replacement of a light pole on Oklahoma Boulevard turned into a watery mess during the lunch hour when workers hit a city waterline. After enlarging the hole with a track hoe, water department workers had to dig by hand to reach the break.

A vehicle knocked down a street light pole on Oklahoma Boulevard sometime Wednesday morning or during the night before. Information on the incident was not available at press time. On Thursday morning, OG&E had a crew on the scene in the parking lot just across from the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus and next to the Donut Palace.

Tiny flags marked the location of a gas line in the area, but the City of Alva was not notified of the plan to dig in the area. When the OG&E crew began to make a hole for the new light pole, they struck a city waterline.
