Waters leads Rangers with 12 tackles in loss to Tigers

ALVA, Okla. – The Rangers football team matched up against the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist Saturday falling 42-7 to the Great American Conference opponent. The Rangers suffered 10 penalties, resulting in a loss of 95 yards that was difficult for them to overcome. Northwestern was led by Braden Waters finishing with 12 tackles on the afternoon.

First Quarter

The Rangers came out strong early in the first quarter with rushes from Torrence Stevens for 27 yards and Tanner Clarkson for 21 yards moving the ball inside the Tigers' 10 yard line. However, the Tigers defense took advantage of a fumble, recovering the ball on their own one yard line. The Tigers quickly responded with a 46-yard passing completion for a touchdown. Ouachita Baptist completed the extra point for an early 7-0 lead against Northwestern to end the first quarter with that score.

Second Quarter

The Tigers started to pull away in the second quarter with back to back 24 yard rushing touchdowns. This advanced from Ouachita allowed them to take the lead 21-0 over the Rangers. The Tigers extended their lead with a late 12 yard pass completion for their fourth consecutive touchdown in the half. Despite Northwestern's efforts, the team trailed 28-0 going into the break. Braden Waters led the team with nine tackles, followed closely by Alejandro Aaron with seven.

Third Quarter

Out of the halftime break, Brian Holiday recovered a fumbled ball forced by teammate Braden Waters as the Rangers looked to gain momentum. Ouachita Baptist responded getting the ball back before scoring with a 1 yard rushing touchdown up the middle to extend their lead in the third 35-0. Northwestern responded with a 38 yard pass to Stevens which contributed to a 22 yard rushing touchdown from Darian Gill. The completed extra point from Connor O'Neal left the Rangers trailing 35-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The Tigers furthered their lead 42-7 with a touchdown and extra point at the start of the fourth. Ouachita Baptist fired off a 55 yard field goal for three points and a second field goal to take a 48-7 lead into the final seconds.

The Rangers will travel to Arkansas to face off against Arkansas-Monticello Saturday. Northwestern will compete against the Weevils with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
