Is politics a ministry?
November 4, 2022
Okay, there are two things that we are taught growing up that should never be talked about at the dinner table or family reunion. Those two subjects are politics and religion, but my question to the reader today is, “can you mix the two?” Is involvement in politics a ministry for the church to be associated with? Let me explain, and then let the reader make up their mind.
There are basically two sides to both politics and religion. Politics are basically Republican vs Democrat, and in religion, in this part of the country that we call the “Bible Belt”, is basically your interpretation of the bible vs mine.
With this said, the mid-term elections are coming up and there are many issues that are facing the country. These people we elect, both men and women, are going to be the ones that make the rules in Washington D.C. for the next several years. What is the Christian to do, how are we to vote?
I think most Christians will agree that we are to follow our government’s laws (Romans 13) until those laws violate God’s laws. Peter and the other apostles, when they were brought before the Sanhedrin, said in Acts 5:29, “Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!”
So the question arises, “what is our ministry in politics?” The answer lies in the response of the apostles, that when man violates God’s law, we have a ministry to be the voice of God in politics to our city, state and country. I want to encourage the reader to examine the party platform of anyone you vote for because most politicians are pressured to vote party line. If that party platform violates God’s law, then we should really think about politics as a ministry.
We as Christians are a huge voting bloc, and if we vote this way, according to God’s laws, we influence our government to enact laws that are Godly and God will bless our city, state, and this wonderful country we live in! So yes, politics is a ministry that we as Christians need to be involved in.
Please get out and vote, vote for Godly people so they can vote Godly bills into law! There should be no divisions in this country or in the church; we should all be one, united behind the good for all and following the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ!!
