The small boy takes a bite of his chicken nugget, washing it down with a soft drink. He pats the infant in his mother's arms stating, "I'm a good big brother." The cookie from the refreshment table can wait. He walks from the back studio at Graceful Arts Gallery to the front exhibit area. His grandparents have requested a performance.

Tripp Zabaneh, age 6, of Carmen, Oklahoma, nonchalantly hops up on the piano bench and begins to play from memory. It's surprising his small hands can reach all the keys. As he finishes the piece, he slides from the bench to the sound of applause. But he doesn't bow. Instead he drops to the floor to show off the gymnastic moves he's been learning from internet videos.

Fellow musician Margaret Goss coaxes Tripp back to the piano, suggesting another song from the hand-written list propped where most pianists would place their sheet music. Although he's starting to learn to read music, he doesn't need help remembering the notes.

Tripp is already a world traveler. He said before coming to Oklahoma, he lived in Belize in a city called Independence. He was four when he first began playing the piano, learning from online sources. Currently, he takes piano lessons via Skye from a teacher in California.

Only time will tell if Tripp's interest in music will continue, but his audience at the First Friday Art Walk in Alva will agree he's making a good start.
