Peace and tranquility
November 18, 2022
It snowed here in Alva earlier this week and it was beautiful; I mean it was so beautiful I almost cried! The big flakes came floating down so lightly and slowly that it immediately took me back to my childhood living on the farm.
One of my most favorite memories is when we would load up the pickup with square bales to go and feed cattle, and the snow was falling very heavily. It was so quiet and peaceful as we would continue to slice off bits of hay out of the back of the truck to the cattle that were lining up like kids ready to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him everything they wanted for Christmas.
That peace and quiet brought me such tranquility that whatever might be worrying me at the time, quickly went away. I cherish every moment that brings me that same feeling, and I try my best to enjoy the snow as it takes me back to that wonderful time of my life. I’m sure the readers have their own places of peace and tranquility that they like to think about when times get a little rough.
The best place for peace and tranquility a person could possibly go in times of trouble is to spend time with the Lord. David, in a prayer in Psalm 57:1-3, finds his place of peace and tranquility as he cries to the Lord, “1 Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. 2 I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. 3 He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me – God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.”
When life seems to come down on us hard, please know that we have a place of peace and tranquility in the wings of our God. This is a place where the Evil One cannot get to us, a place where we can relax knowing that God will take care of us. It is a place of quietness that allows us to detox and depressurize in the care of our Lord!
Praise you O God for your love and faithfulness! Praise you O Lord for your tender care and loving arms and breast to lean upon in times of trouble! Praise you O Jehovah for being our loving Father! Praise your Holy Name.
Next time the snow falls in your area, I hope you will think of the peace and tranquility that the Lord provides! I leave you with one more Psalm from King David that will help us in our time of need; Psalm 29:11 “May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!”
