An Alva woman has been charged with a felony after a search of her residence. Shannon Katherine McDaniel, 38, of Alva, has been charged with possession of a firearm after former felony conviction. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for one to ten years.

McDaniel is also facing two misdemeanor charges: possession of controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Court records show on Nov. 8 Woods County Undersheriff Keith Dale obtained a search warrant for the residence of Michael Christopher Martinez and McDaniel in the 100 block of Barnes Street. He had received reliable information of drug activity and a felon in possession of a firearm at that location on Nov. 7.

The search warrant was executed on Nov. 8. Among items found were a Remington Fieldmaster Model 571 .22 caliber rifle with chamber loaded with eight rounds, a Springfield XD 40 caliber pistol loaded with eight rounds, other ammunition, a baggie containing approximately one gram of methamphetamine, various paraphernalia with some having meth residue, and a blue glasses case with a baggie containing approximately 2.9 grams of methamphetamine.

District 26 Attorney’s Office Investigator Steve Tanio told Dale that during a post-Miranda-rights interview, Martinez told him McDaniel had been living with him for approximately one week, and he admitted to smoking methamphetamine as recently as one day prior.

Both Martinez and McDaniel were transported to the Woods County Sheriff’s Office to complete the book in process.

In a search of Google maps, Dale learned the residence is less than 100 feet from Longfellow Elementary School.
