Three people from Kansas were injured in a two-vehicle collision north of Alva Friday. The wreck occurred at 11:23 a.m. at the intersection of US-281 and OK-11, approximately four miles west of Capron in Woods County.

Cullen Lumry, 19, of Meade, Kansas, was westbound on OK-11 in a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe. Nikki L. Brown, 53, of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, was southbound on US-281, driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Lumry failed to yield from the stop sign, pulling out in front of the Brown vehicle. Brown’s vehicle struck the Lumry vehicle, causing both vehicles to exit the roadway and come to rest in the southwest ditch.

Lumry was transported by Alva EMS to the Alva Regional Airport and transferred by Air-Evac to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, in critical condition with head, trunk internal and leg injuries.

Brown was transported from the scene by Air-Evac and taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in critical condition with trunk internal, arm and leg injuries. A male juvenile, age 17, of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, who was a passenger in Brown’s vehicle was taken by Alva EMS to Share Medical Center in Alva where he was treated and released.

Brown was pinned in her vehicle and extricated by Alva Fire using Jaws of Life. According to the OHP report, she was not wearing a seatbelt, but Lumry and the juvenile were.

Trooper Darrin Lancaster investigated, assisted by the Woods County Sheriff’s Office, Alva Fire, Alva EMS, Capron Fire and Air-Evac.
