An Alva man has been charged with child sexual abuse involving a nine-year-old girl.

On Nov. 28 in Woods County District Court, Bryan Charles Jacobson, 54, of Alva, was charged with child sexual abuse, a felony. This crime is punishable by imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections not exceeding life imprisonment or by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $5,000, or both such fine and imprisonment.

According to court records, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, at approximately 7:28 p.m. Woods County Dispatch contacted Sheriff’s Deputy Dakota Davis about a woman who wanted to report that her daughter had been sexually abused. Davis spoke with the woman on the phone who said the girl had been sexually touched by Jacobson at the home of a relative in Alva.

The woman said in a phone call, her daughter told her she went to sleep in Jacobson’s bed and woke up in the morning when he groped her right buttock over her clothes then groped her vaginal area. She said he moved his hand under her shirt and bra to fondle her.

Deputy Davis then spoke with the girl’s father who said he arrived home from work about 3 p.m. and was told about the sexual abuse. It was the same as what the girl had told her mother.

At approximately 8:44 p.m. District Attorney’s Investigator Steve Tanio and Deputy Davis went to the Alva address where they were met by the girl’s great grandmother. She said Jacobson was in his room. Davis asked Jacobson to step out so he could talk with Tanio. Then Tanio took Jacobson to his vehicle for a recorded voluntary, non-custodial interview.

Davis spoke with the girl’s great grandmother inside the home. She stated the same circumstances that the girl had told her parents. She said the girl wanted to sleep in Jacobson’s bed. He wasn’t home so she was given permission to sleep there. The great grandmother said she got up around 5 a.m. to start making their Thanksgiving meal. Shortly after that Jacobson came home. She told him the girl was in his bed, and he said it would be fine. Jacobson lay down next to the girl.

She said sometime around 10 a.m. the girl got up and went to her great grandmother who was in the kitchen. The girl said, “I’m sad.” Asked why, she said that Jacobson had touched her and began crying.

Tanio stated that Jacobson gave a written confession. During the interview, Jacobson stated that he thought it was his girlfriend.

Jacobson’s bond has been set at $50,000. His next court appearance is Jan. 10, 2023.
