Cherokee FCCLA competes in district STAR competition

Twenty-one members of the Cherokee FCCLA chapter traveled to Fairview on Dec. 7 for the Oklahoma FCCLA North-1 District STAR Event Competition. STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:

• Cooperative – teams work to accomplish specific goals

• Individualized – an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals

• Competitive – individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria.

STAR Events are grouped into Foundational, Leadership, Career Preparation, and Online Events. All first place winners move on to compete at the North Region STAR Events in Bristow in February.

Hope Jordan, North -1 District president, and Davin Budy, North -1 District vice-president of membership, helped facilitate the events and ran the awards ceremony at the end of the day.
