Burlington fifth- through eighth-grade grade students show off their "beebot" floats during a recent challenge activity.

This year Burlington schools started a STEAM program for first through eighth grade. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math.

This program was started to encourage problem solving skills in students through technology, and is a feeder program for robotics. The whole point in STEAM is to inspire inquiry and curiosity; to empower students to ask thought-provoking questions that promote creativity and exploration, and to connect their problem-solving to real world solutions.

The Burlington first graders through eighth graders involved in the STEAM program meet once a week...
