Doctor visits, part 8

One chilly, overcast November afternoon several years ago I found myself going to see the resident medico at the Memphis State University clinic, a man I knew only as “Dr. Black”.

When I arrived, five minutes before closing time, Dr. Black was obviously not happy to see me. He was rather elderly and was feeling poorly that afternoon. He told me that he was ready to close the clinic for the day and go home.
