Herbert Francis Landwehr, 77, of Sharon, Kansas, died Saturday, February 4, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his entire family.

He was born on May 17, 1945, in Hardtner, Kansas, the son of Herbert W. Landwehr and Monica (Boor) Landwehr. On June 30, 1965, he married the love of his life, Vonda (Mathews-Bird) Landwehr in Sharon, Kansas. They were married 57 years. He was a devoted husband and friend. Herb often spoke of his love for Vonda.

Herb was born the only son in a family of nine children. From a young age, Herb began working alongside his dad, mom and sisters on their family farm. In grade school Herb contracted the polio virus. As a result he was left crippled in his left leg, but in true Herb fashion, he pushed through this obstacle to not only overcome it, but to become a gifted high school athlete. This grit and determination resulted in him being given the opportunity to play college football, and served him well throughout his life.

After high school, Herb devoted his life to hard work and providing for his family. He worked for Barbara Oil Company and the Sharon Co-op before returning back to his love of farming, ranching and agriculture alongside his wife Vonda, and his dad. Herb also returned back to the oilfield as a contract pumper for over 30 years. He continued to farm and ranch up until his death.

He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, Kansas, the Knights of Columbus, the NRA, cofounder of the Sharon Valley 4-H Club, and also a member of the Hazelton COOP board.

Herb loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed many years of hunting with his sons, grandkids, family and friends. He was also a skilled horseman, and enjoyed riding horses and working cattle on horseback. He had a sincere love and respect for all things nature.

Herb's greatest love and devotion was to his family and his faith. He dedicated his life to honoring and instilling the value of the love of family, and the importance of faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Vonda Landwehr of Sharon, Kansas, are four sons, Herb (Myriam) Landwehr of Sharon, Mike (Debbie) Landwehr of Derby, Kansas, Ron (Rhonda) Landwehr of Sharon, and Randie (Dana) Landwehr of Stockton, Missouri; one daughter, Alisa (Chad) Boyce of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, Kristine (Andy Larkin) Landwehr, Herb (Laura) Landwehr, Heath (Alyssa) Landwehr, Vonda Landwehr, Kirsten (Josh) Kramer, Kaitlyn (Kyle) Wasinger, Ronnie (Morgan) Landwehr, Ryan (Jamie) Landwehr, Riston (Jaycee Patton) Landwehr, Randie (Shawna) Landwehr, Landon (Tristin Cross) Landwehr, Celie (Logan Kiser) Landwehr, Emmie (Dewey Doze) Landwehr, and Brooke Boyce; ten great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Hayes, Brooks, Nora, Mia, Rose, Maggie, Oaklee, Randie and Slade; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents and by eight sisters, Monica Hendricks, Patricia Adelhardt, Theresa Smith, Celie Landwehr, Aggie Shogrin, Rose Leis, Louise Martin and Eunice Hansard.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, Kansas, 67104. Rosary/vigil service will be on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 7 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11.am. at. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Emmanuel Kosikumah presiding.

Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Sharon, Kansas.
